How to Apply Eyeshadow
Learning how to apply eyeshadow is one part technique and one part creativity!
Although learning how to apply eyeshadow properly is almost an art, anybody can learn to apply it the right way. With eyeshadow, it is possible to transform your eyes and create a look that is all your own. There are no real limits to what eyeshadow can do for your eyes. It can make small eyes look larger, bring out deep-set eyes, accentuate large eyes, and even add drama and mystery. By using my different application techniques, your shadow can look natural and light during the day or sultry and smokey for evening wear.
Selecting Eyeshadow
A good tip to remember is that darker eyeshadow normally gives your eyes dimension, while lighter shades tend to bring out your eyes, which is great for people with small eyes. Use darker shades on your eyelids if your eyes protrude.
- Always use brushes that are of excellent quality and have a variety of shapes and sizes. I suggest Japonze brushes for their excellent quality and affordable price.
- Choose eyeshadow shades that complement your eye color.
- To get a shadow that looks smokey, try mixing black with light or bright blues.
- Brown eyes look wonderful accentuated with bronze, copper, or beige shadows.
- Plums, browns, forest green, and even apricot shadows look great on people with hazel or green eyes.
- If your eyes are blue, use light, neutral tones, gold shadow and grey instead of blue shadow. It draws away from your eyes.
Applying Eyeshadow
Apply your shadow base makeup to your eyelids, followed by a light dusting of powder. I highly recommend Loreal or Natural Radiance shadow bases. They help prevent your eyeshadow from creasing. How to apply eyeshadow will become second-nature to you once you implement a few easy suggestions.
- Use a flat, large eyeshadow brush and apply a light, neutral color over your whole eyelid, from your brow right to your eyelash line.
- If your eyes are wide set, make them appear closer together using dark colors on the inside edge of your eyes.
- Make small eyes look larger by using a light color on the lid, the color on the crease is darker with a highlighter directly under your eyebrow. Keep your eye makeup to a minimum.
- Highlight under your brow with a flat color if you have large eyes. From the crease to the lash line, apply a darker shadow.
When learning how to apply eyeshadow, the most important tip of all is to practice and have fun experimenting.
